Before you choose

Check the name is really yours

A generator can give you ideas; it cannot tell you whether a name is free to use. We do not check trademarks, company registers, domains or social handles — please do these checks yourself before you spend money on a logo, signage or a website.

  1. Trademarks. Search the USPTO trademark search (US) or the UK IPO trade mark search (UK) for the same or a similar name in event, decor, photography or rental services. A similar name in the same trade can be a problem even if it is not identical.
  2. Company, LLC or trading name. In the US, search your state’s business entity registry, and check whether you need a DBA or assumed-name filing. In the UK, use the Companies House name availability checker.
  3. Domain and handles. Look up the .com (or .co.uk) and the Instagram, TikTok and Facebook handles. A small tweak — adding your town or “co” — is fine; a completely different handle is confusing.
  4. Your area. Search the name with your town and look on Google Maps. Another business with a similar name nearby will cost you referrals.
  5. Say it out loud. Spell it over the phone, read it on a phone screen, and imagine it on a van or a small logo. If people ask “how do you spell that?”, keep looking.

Questions, answered

How do I come up with a name for my event business?

Start with what you want clients to feel — elegant, fun, modern, high-end or local — and a few words that belong to your trade (petals, lenses, balloons, tents). Mix them in different patterns, say the shortlist out loud, and drop anything that is hard to spell over the phone. This generator does the mixing for you; pick a style, add your name or town if you like, and shuffle until a few names stand out.

How do I check if a business name is available?

Check four places before you commit. Trademarks: search the USPTO in the US or the UK IPO in the UK for the same or a similar name in your kind of business. Company names: search your state’s business registry for an LLC or corporation, or the Companies House name checker in the UK. Online: look for the domain and the Instagram, TikTok and Facebook handles. Locally: search the name with your town. This generator does none of these checks — every name is an idea, not a promise that it is free to use.

Should I use my own name in my business name?

Your own name (“Balloons by Emma”, “Emma Hart Photography”) is easy to register and builds a personal brand, which suits photographers and solo decorators. It is harder to sell the business later or to grow a team under it. A brand name travels better if you plan to hire, open a second location or sell — and you can always add “by Emma” on your website.

Do I need to register my business name?

It depends on where you are and how you trade. In the US, an LLC or corporation registers its name with the state, and trading under a different name usually means filing a DBA (“doing business as”) or assumed name with your state or county. In the UK, limited companies register their name with Companies House; sole traders can trade under a business name without registering it, but must follow the naming rules and not copy someone else’s brand. Check the rules where you live, or ask an accountant or lawyer.

Can I trademark my business name?

Often, yes — if it is distinctive and nobody has an earlier, similar mark for similar services. Invented or unexpected names (“Velvet & Pop”) are usually easier to protect than descriptive ones (“Best Balloon Decor”). Run a search first, then apply through the USPTO in the US or the UK IPO in the UK; many owners use a trademark attorney for the search and application.

Are the names from this generator free to use?

The generator combines curated words and patterns in your browser — we do not own the names, and we do not know whether someone else already uses one. Treat each name as a starting point and run the checks above before you buy a domain, print cards or order signage.

What makes a good name for a balloon, photo booth or floral business?

Short (two or three words), easy to say and spell, and still fitting if you add new services. A trade word (“Balloon Co.”, “Florals”, “Photo Booth”) helps people and search engines understand what you do; a brandable first half (“Pearl”, “Fizzy”, “Atelier”) makes it memorable. Make sure it looks good as an Instagram handle and on a small logo.
